PREVENTIVE DENTAL TREATMENT |
SCALING / CLEANING OF TEETH |
Did you know 90% of the human population suffers from gum disease in their mouths?
Did you know that gum disease, if left untreated can lead to the deadly heart attack?
This is because the bacteria from the gums travels through the blood stream, leading to a heart attack. |
IF YOU HAVE
- Bad breath/ foul smell in your mouth
- Spongy gums
- Bleeding gums
- Receding gums
- Mobile / shaky teeth
- Loose gums
These are the signs of a festering gum disease. You must see your dentist at the earliest
|
| |
Even though you may be regular in brushing teeth twice daily, rinsing/washing with water every time one eats, flossing teeth, still some amount of food debris remains in the mouth. This reacts with bacteria in the mouth to form a soft slippery layer called plaque. This soft layer over time hardens to form a chalk like substance called tartar or calculus. No amount of brushing can get rid of tartar/calculus.
Due to smoking, regular intake of tea, coffee and stain-inducing foods like betel nut, red wine and spices like turmeric, some amount of staining is bound to be found on the teeth. |
| |
To get rid of plaque/calculus/stains it is mandatory for every individual to go for a professional cleaning/scaling and polishing of teeth at least once in six months. |
| |
RESTORATIVE DENTAL TREATMENT |
| |
|
TOOTH FILLINGS |
| |
|
IF YOU HAVE
- Frequent food lodgement (stuck) in between your teeth?
- Sensitivity (sensation) of teeth to hot or cold liquids or food stuff?
- Pain/sensation in teeth on having something sweet or sour?
- Pain in teeth on chewing/eating anything or while applying pressure?
|
| |
If yes then you could be heading towards a tooth decay / cavity / caries |
| |
If a small amount of food debris is left in your teeth, the bacteria which are present in the mouth react with the food. As a result, acid is produced. This acid starts dissolving out the tooth enamel leading to decay/cavity/ caries or the tooth as a whole.

|
| |
YOU MUST GET YOUR TEETH CHECKED AT THIS STAGE? |
| |
This would involve a short visit to your dentist and the problem is resolved by getting a filling in the tooth which could be either silver or of a white tooth coloured material [cosmetic /composite filling].
If ignored, the cavity becomes bigger, penetrates the top layer (enamel), middle layer (dentine) to reach and infect the nerve of the tooth. Taking the tooth beyond the stage of restoration by filling may not be possible. |

After filling with tooth colored composite filling |

CROWNS & BRIDGES |
| |
|
ROOT CANAL TREATED TOOTH |
| |
|
It is mandatory for a root canal treated tooth to have a ceramic or porcelain dental cap/crown as the tooth though now healthy is brittle (because the nerve and blood supply has been removed). If not capped or crowned, the tooth may fracture on eating something hard like toast, nuts or bones, which may ultimately lead to removal or extraction of your natural tooth. |
| |
|
CAVITY |
| |
|
If the cavity in a tooth is so big that the retention of the tooth to hold the filling is compromised, then it becomes mandatory for the tooth to be capped / crowned with ceramic or porcelain dental crowns so that it gets reinforced and can last in the mouth and serve for a long time. For teeth that are badly damaged, ceramic and porcelain dental crowns can be an effective treatment option. |
| |
|
MISSING TOOTH |
| |
|
If you have only one missing tooth, ceramic or porcelain dental bridge is your best choice. When one tooth is missing in the mouth, it is mandatory to replace it. This is because if not replaced:
The chewing efficiency gets compromised and the stomach is strained or stressed to aid in food digestion.
Teeth move /migrate wherever they get space. If one tooth is missing the adjacent teeth move (from either side) to occupy that space. Also the opposing tooth (i.e. in the opposite arch) tends to move into this space. As result of movement of these teeth, fresh spaces are created in between these teeth. These spaces are catch areas for food and can further aggravate into acute dental problems.
One of the most common and dependable way of replacing missing tooth/teeth is a bridge where support of teeth adjacent to the missing tooth/teeth is taken and a fixed replacement is given. So porcelain or ceramic dental caps/crowns are put on adjacent teeth to anchor the artificial teeth which fill the gaps.

ENDODONTICS & ROOT CANAL THERAPY |
| |
|
YOU REQUIRE A ROOT CANAL THERAPY (RCT) IF YOU HAVE |
| |
|
- Sensitivity/pain in a tooth on having something cold especially drinking something chilled/cold.
- Pain in the tooth while applying pressure to eat/chew something (the patient avoids eating on the side where the infected tooth is).
- A sinus near the gum of the infected tooth which comes and goes (may or may not have pus); this tooth may or may not have pain.
|
| |
|
A recent survey conducted with our patients showed that patients who have experienced RCT are 6 times more likely to describe it as painless as patients who have not had RCT.
Pain during RCT could be mild or moderate or severe (in few cases), depending upon the severity of the infection. However, with the latest available technologies at Shalby Dental, anesthetics and antibiotics, a root canal is as comfortable as getting a filling done in a tooth. Majority of our patients never complained of pain while getting the Root Canal Therapy (RCT) done – that’s what we call Painless Root Canal Therapy.
RCT’s could be multiple or one-sitting treatments depending upon the infection in the tooth. However, with the skill and dedication of our team of dentists and the world class technology that we have adapted – your RCT would be over in just SINGLE SITTING without experiencing any pain. |
